Pilates mat classes contain a series of exercises that focus on developing (especially core) strength, flexibility, balance and stamina – and on a general level on the whole body health, healing through movement modalities and mind-body-spirit connectivity.
The exercises, designed by Joseph Pilates, are performed in a controlled way, playing with tempo, and require an intense concentration. They help strengthen the body’s core, the so-called “powerhouse”, by developing pelvic and scapula stability, as well as abdominal control, using focused breathing patterns.
A usual class at InLight starts off with some warm-up exercises, then goes through a sequence of typical Mat Pilates exercises that will be presented at multiple levels as much as possible to allow students to choose to work at their individual level, and finishes with some stretching techniques and moments of connection with your own being.
Besides improving posture in general, Pilates strengthens the core muscles of the pelvis, abdomen, back, and shoulders. The main goals furthermore include the improvement in flexibility, muscle tone, body balance, spinal support, lower back health, and body-mind awareness. Mat Pilates may very likely help people who already suffer from an aching back.
No previous Pilates experience is necessary to join this class. Open for all.
Please do inform the instructor about your individual health situation prior to a class.
