Thanks to Zoom & Co and a longterm friendship with a very authentic representative of the Indian culture, we are planning to offer a SANSKRIT language course in cooperation with Dr. Anirban Dash, Associate Professor at the CUTS in Sarnath, Varanasi. He has been teaching (and researching) this and other ancient Indian languages with his special charm to his international students for two decades. Please let us know soon if you’d like to be part of this online course to be offered on a donation base to a very limited amount of participants.

The following course times are planned:
Thursday & Sunday from 2.30 – 4pm Lisbon/ UK time, starting from 9th July with a short introductory session earlier already on auspicious Gurupoornima, 5th July at 2.30pm Lisbon/ UK time.
The basic course runs over 3 months (28 sessions) and could be followed by an advanced course (6 months) and even a diploma course (1 year).

Objectives of this course are:

1. To give a basic understanding of the Sanskrit language and literature
2. To help the students to read, comprehend and recite basic Sanskrit texts with correct pronounciation

The course will include an introduction to Sanskrit grammar, and basic Sanskrit texts and reading skills. Course materials: Teacher’s handouts and the book Samskrta-Subodhini: A Sanskrit Primer by M.M. Deshpande, Michigan Papers on South And Southeast Asia, University of Michigan, 2007

About the Teacher:
Presently Dr. Anirban Dash is working as Associate Professor in the Department of Sanskrit, Faculty of Shabdavidya, CUTS, Sarnath, Varanasi, India. He has worked as visiting Faculty at Indology Section, Department of Asian Studies, Institute for Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies, University of Copenhagen, Denmark as well as Assistant Professor in the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, Pune University, India. Dr. Dash has a PhD. from the University of Pune, Maharashtra, India.
